HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (HSE) POLICY STATEMENT
UK & IRELAND


We:
• are committed to achieving the highest standards of health and safety at  
   work and to minimising any impact our operations and products may have
   on the quality of the environment.

• will seek continually to improve health, safety and environmental 
  performance by setting corporate objectives and monitoring their 
  achievement and will develop performance evaluation procedures and 
  associated indicators.

• recognise that we have a responsibility to our employees, the community 
  and all others involved with our activities and products which is equal to the 
  commercial, operational and financial aspects of our business.

• will ensure that all activities of our business are carried out in a way that will
  minimise the risk to the health and safety of employees, other persons
  working for or on behalf of the organisation, members of the public and users
  of our products.

• attach great importance to compliance with appropriate legislative  
  requirements relating to health, safety and environmental aspects and
  assessments, and the conditions of licences, permits or authorisations issued
  by regulatory bodies. Compliance is regarded as a minimum requirement.
  Measures beyond this will be taken where necessary to observe all
  requirements of corporate and company standards.

• will take health, safety and environmental issues into account
  during planning, design, introduction and operation of new and existing  
  processes, plant and equipment and during development of products taking 
  specific account of: 

  - risks to the health and safety of persons working for or on behalf of the  
    organisation and the general public 
  - reduction of consumption of resources including energy
  - prevention of pollution and the elimination or reduction of polluting releases
    to the workplace and external environment. 
  - minimisation, re-use, recovery and recycling of waste as opposed to 
    disposal where feasible.

• will consider the environmental effects of raw materials and their sourcing
  through the continued operation of our purchasing policy and research and
  development activities.

• will encourage sound health, safety and environmental practices by suppliers
  of products or services, sub- contractors and customers.

• will provide such information as is necessary to customers to ensure so far
  as is reasonably practicable that our products can be used, transported,
  stored and disposed of safely, and without risk to health or the environment.

• will investigate and take corrective action to prevent recurrence of accidents 
  and other incidents presenting a risk to persons working for or on behalf of
  the organisation and/or the environment, will maintain records of such
  incidents and provide reports to the statutory authorities as necessary.

• will maintain emergency procedures to deal with fire, spillages, injury and
  other foreseeable incidents.

• will provide information, training and instruction to all employees, as well as
   to other persons working for or on behalf of the organisation as appropriate,
   about the potential risks to themselves, and any significant environmental
   impacts, actual or potential of their activities and the benefits of improved
   personal and company performance.

• will provide and maintain an action programme and the resources and
   facilities to implement this policy and to achieve the corporate objectives set
   for the business.

• will communicate our aims and objectives to persons working for or on 
   behalf of the organisation, will encourage employee involvement and
   consultation to gain commitment to the policy and its implementation, and
   will issue this policy statement to each employee and other persons working
   for or on behalf of the organisation.

• will make this policy document and our corporate objectives freely available
   to our customers, suppliers, members of the public or other interested  
   parties on request.

• will periodically review the policy, progress towards corporate objectives and
   the health, safety and environmental performance of the business.

• will audit compliance with the policy and operation of our HSE management
   system.

• The overall responsibility for Health, Safety and the Environment is vested in
   the Country Co-ordinator. All directors, managers and supervisors are
   responsible for ensuring that safe methods of work and environmental
   conditions exist in their areas of responsibility and that all legislation and the
   conditions of licences, permits or authorisations issued by regulatory bodies
   is enforced.


Each individual is expected:

• to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of other
   persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

• to co-operate, so far as is necessary, to enable compliance with any
   Statutory Duty or company requirement.

• not to interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health
   and safety or environmental protection and to adhere to HSE procedures.

• to actively participate in maintaining the safety of their working environment
   through their line management structure.

Breaches of health, safety and environmental procedures may lead to disciplinary action.

The management system and detailed arrangements for implementing this Policy are recorded in Divisional and local site Health, Safety and Environmental manuals issued to the Company Intranet.
